  1. In English (0500) (paper 12) in section 1 (question-answers part) , is it ok for us to write outside the lines given in the paper because I was told that if we write outside the lines(in case if our answers are long) then we have to continue the answer on the additional page specifying the question else we’ll be penalized for writing the answer outside . If I just write 2 or 3 words exceeding and writing it outside the line then is it ok or I have to write them in the additional page.

    • Hi Saraswati,

Most of the exam scripts are scanned and marked by the examiners in their computer. There is no penalty for going beyond the lines, however, you are risking your answers not fitting into the scanned screen. If this happens, you will lose marks as the examiners won?t be able to see your full answers.

It it best to write on the blank pages provided within the answer sheet. Any blank pages that are used by a candidate in the examinations are scanned and marked as long as you properly label it.

  2. thank you so much, this was really helpful, i really love how all questions and doubts get solved, thank you so much for putting up papers too!

  3. hi, what text book do you recommend for environmental management, im giving my exam this month and using the environmental management cambridge igcse and o level textbook by gary skinner, ken crafter, melissa turner and Ann Skinner, also, it would be great if you could share some tips for english (first language)…

    • Hello SD,

One of the students shared this guideline for Environmental Management (0680),

      1. You need to know the content by heart. Everything from the Lithosphere to the Biosphere should be embedded in your brain indefinitely. I used this book https://www.amazon.com/Environmental-Management-Core-Level-IGCSE/dp/0199151318 which is very comprehensive and I think it is one of the best books to exist for this particular subject.

      2. Revise. Keep revising. You never know when you?re going forget one important detail. Often times in exams, we get questions from topics we neglected.

      3. Past papers are your best friend. Practice, practice, practice. I cannot stress this point enough. Revise and practice- that should be your cycle.

      4. Definitions. The Cambridge people are a big fan of catching you by surprise. And in a subject such as EM, you need to know how to define a concept concisely. Don?t neglect these.

      5. Graphs and calculations. Brush up on your math, you will get a question related to math GUARANTEED.

With regards to English First Language, the most important things you need to do are: read a lot and write a lot. We can?t stress enough of ?read a lot?. By reading, you will gain tremendous knowledge on how to phrase your sentences, types of vocabulary, style, etc? Besides reading, you ought to practise writing as well. You have to put to use what you have learnt.

    • Hello vaishnavi,

Start as early as possible. You can revise the subjects from the beginning. Highlight the important facts that you think could be on the test (you should refer to the latest syllabus on what is expected during exams here: https://igcsecentre.com/cambridge-igcse-subjects-syllabuses/). You can then use the past exam papers (https://igcsecentre.com/cambridge-igcse-past-exam-papers/) as your revision. Start with the latest papers as they have the newest syllabus format and continue with the older ones date back from 5 to 10 years. Then, revise on the most common mistakes that you always seem to make. Pay attention to the most common mistakes you always seem to make. Make notes and revise them, so you can avoid making the same mistakes in your actual exam.
