Greetings!
I am an English teacher working in Maldives (ESL 0510 scheme). I found it that in the May/June 2015 question paper it was asked to write an email to a friend.
Is there any specific format we have to follow for this question or write the way we follow for the informal letter?
It would be helpful if you could clarify this.

Hello there,
If the question is asking you to write to a council, or school principal, or any other official body, then your email must be in formal tone.
If the question is asking you to write to your friend, your relative, then your email must be in informal tone.
For informal email, you may use “Hello” or “Hi” or “Dear”. For example: “Dear uncle John”, “Hi Teresa” etc. But be ware DO NOT use colloquial languages such as “Yo”, “bro”.
For formal email, you must use “Dear”. For example: “Dear Mr. Smith”, “Dear Principal” etc…

The format would be the informal letter, written in the form of email. Which means, NO address needed, as specified in the question 🙂
