  1. Hi,

My son sat for the IGCSE in Maths and French (Grade 9 us – Year 19 uk) last may with his International school and succeeded in both topics.

Thinking we might move to England by the end of this year, we decided to enroll him in an English school to prepare our move to London. Then, since September 2014, he is attending another school with a British curriculum that prepares the GCSE over two years : Year 10 (uk) mainly based on controlled assessments counting for 40 or 50 % according to the topics and the final exams that will be held in year 11 (uk) and will count for more or less 60%. The system being slightly different from the International school, the English school requires my son to repeat Year 10 (despite he was promoted to the next level by the International school) to start the preparation for the GCSE right at the beginning.
Now, I feel we got it all wrong as it’s not in England we might move, but US by next summer. So, in case of finding difficult to find a school that prepare the GCSE and accepting him straight in Year 11 (uk) for 2015-2016, could he go back to his initial curriculum and complete his IGCSE started last may ?
If we decide to homeschool our son, could you explain how your online tuition works and how many months has the student to complete the exams ?

Thank you for your help !

    • Hi Couellan,

It is quite impossible for any school to accept him at year 11 (not to discourage you, just to let you have a preparation of what you might face). For his case, we would suggest you to do IGCSE. As IGCSE is flexible, and you can complete the subjects needed at any time (if you’re not in hurry), and anywhere.

To make sure that he fulfils the 5 core subjects, please read here:
      https://igcsecentre.com/what-is-igcse/

In the US, you just have to register him as “Private Candidate” with the local British Council, and he will sit his exams with British Council.

Our online programmes are “Revision types”, they are 2-month programmes (approximately, depending on subjects) targeting candidates who are sitting the exams soon (either this term or next). Some parents bought our programmes to let their children to get familiar with the exam style, learn the tactics for exams, or to choose either to be in “Core Curriculum” or “Extended Curriculum”.

This term’s programmes had closed. They are open again early next year. Please make sure you have signed up to receive our updates at the right sidebar.

  2. Hi admin,
I am writing my exam this month. Can you please give me Quick tips on writing English First Language. It will be helpful, if you do so. Thanks.

    • Hi Kavin,

      For reading:
      1. Make sure you ONLY select points from the passage, straying too far from the passage given will be penalised.
      2. Use your own words, ‘lifting’ from the passage will be penalised.
      3. Use details from the passage as much as you could.

      For writing:
      1. Always make plans before you start writing.
      2. FOCUS on the topic. Out of topic will get you ZERO mark.
      3. Practise, practise, practise.

  3. hi,
I would like to join too.
I am taking the exam next year in the march session.(2015 march)
How and When do I register?

  4. My daughter is 14 years old and is home schooled. I would like her to take the igsce exams. If she enrols for 5 subjects must she do all 5 exams in the term or can it be staggered i.e 2 papers in one term and another 3 in the next term. May i know what is the fees for learning online and also for the exams.

    Thank you.

    • Hi Zurina,

She can always do 2-3 subjects in one term, and another 2-3 subjects in another term.

Our online learning courses have closed for this term. Please stay tune for next term opening early next year. Make sure you sign up to receive our news.

For the exam fees, you may check with the nearest British Council in your city.
